In January 1882, soon
after ten students had
been selected, and had
entered upon a course
of study, a despatch was received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, by which the Students were informed that the School would probably
be closed.
Nothing definite however was done till January 17th when I received notice to order the Students to quit and pack up such things as they could.
This was carried out to the extent that all books were packed up, and I had removed them.
On the 18th however the order was cancelled, and the students remained on waiting orders. This unsettled state of affairs, during which time no real work was done, continued till February 11th when a minute was issued by His Excellency Sir J. Hennessy, C.S.P.371 of 1882 stating that the school was to continue.
